Number of traffic deaths eclipsed homicides in 2025
What Happened
In 2025 Denver recorded 37 homicides, a precipitous drop. This is to be commended.
What isn't commendable is that 93 people were killed on Denver's streets in 2025 in preventable traffic crashes. That's 2.5 times more than homicides.
What Should Have Been Done
The mayor ran on a platform of safety yet he has not equated that to Denverite's ability to travel safely across Denver without fear of traffic violence.
Safety is far more than property crime and felonies. It also means you are safe to walk, ride a bike, roll, or drive to your destination in Denver.
This means strongly supporting the city's Vision Zero efforts and staff. This is something he hasn't done and even cut our department of transportation's jobs during layoffs.
The mayor needs to understand that safety also applies to Denver streets. The statistics show he doesn't understand this or care.
